– For nearly 20 years, team members of regional accounting and business consulting firm, Rea & Associates have come together in a friendly competition named “Help Can Hunger” food drive to collect food for local nonprofit organizations and food banks.

After all was said and done, the firm’s Zanesville office – for the second year in a row — was named the winner after collecting 10,260 pounds of food (570 pounds of food per employee). Their donation, as well as the additional $500 prize, was given to Christ’s Table, a nonprofit soup kitchen in Zanesville. The Rea Foundation also awards second place with a $300 donation and third place with a $200 donation, which was given to Christ’s Table and Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center (Cambridge office) and the Backpack Food Program (Millersburg office), respectively.

This year, as a firm, the “Help Can Hunger” food drive, which is organized and managed by Rea employees, was successful in collecting 40,528 pounds of food. This total brought the overall total since starting the firm-wide competition in 2003, to more than 410,000 pounds.

“This is always an exciting time of year for our firm – when we’re able to give back to others in the communities that mean so much to us,” said Scott Moyer, CPA. “Investing in our community is part of The Rea Way, and the Help Can Hunger is a testament to the importance we place on giving to our neighbors in need throughout Ohio.” This year, the following organizations benefited from the firm’s effort: Christ’s Table (Zanesville, Ohio); St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Bank (Mentor, Ohio); Backpack Food Program (Millersburg); Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center (Medina, Ohio); Gospel Mission Food Pantry (Marietta, Ohio); People to People Ministries (Wooster, Ohio); West Ohio Food Bank and Christian Corner Community Center (Lima, Ohio); Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center & Christ’s Table (Cambridge, Ohio); Second Harvest Food Bank (Avon, Ohio); Share-A-Christmas (New Philadelphia, Ohio); Dublin Food Pantry (Dublin, Ohio).
