The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners analyzed 1,483 cases of fraud for its 2014 Global Fraud Study, Report to the Nations on Occupational Fraud and Abuse. The losses from these cases totaled $3 billion. In 92 percent of cases, at least one behavioral red flag was identified. In 64 percent of fraud cases, the perpetrator displayed two or more behavioral red flags. In fact, according to the report, 44 percent of fraudsters were reported as “Living Beyond Their Means” while the fraud was ongoing.
