Right now, the American workforce is undergoing a pretty massive change. Those who have been at the helms of our companies for so long are finally on their way out and a vastly different generation is moving in to take their places – and the customers that these businesses are serving are changing too.
Maureen Metcalf, CEO of Metcalf & Associates, joins unsuitable again to talk about the importance of innovation and what that looks like in terms of leadership. Given this shifting economic climate, what does a company have to do to stay on top?
Can your business afford to completely revamp itself to meet the demands of your changing workforce? Or, more importantly, can you afford not to? Why does leadership need to innovate?
Leaders have to continually change how they lead because who they’re leading and what they’re doing as leaders have changed – and changes continue to happen quite rapidly. It’s pretty much impossible nowadays to become an expert on a topic and then stay an expert on that topic in perpetuity because new information and ideas are constantly being put out there. So today, leaders have to acknowledge that they don’t know everything, admit that to the people they lead, and learn from the people around them.
