Rea & Associates volunteers at schools around Ohio as part of Accounting for Kids® Day
New Philadelphia, Ohio - Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students around Ohio were introduced to finance, accounting and economics by CPAs and other accounting professionals with Rea & Associates as part of Accounting for Kids Day.
"The lesson couldn't be timelier given the current financial crisis sweeping the country," said Lee Beall, Rea's CEO. "As families across America are struggling with rising prices and falling investments, children are picking up on potential financial stress at home."
More than 75 accountants and staff members worked with more than 800 students across the state including schools from Bath, Berlin, Dover, Flat Ridge, Killbuck, Lakeville, Marietta, Medina, Millersburg, Mt. Hope, Painesville, Walnut Creek, Winesburg, Wooster, Worthington schools. The staff led the students in an interactive game about the stock market and the risks and rewards of real-life investing. The game showed how market fluctuations can affect overall investment and supplements classroom curriculum. Children learned how to make smart financial decisions and become savvy consumers and future business leaders.
"By participating in Accounting for Kids Day, our firm was able help kids understand early in life why it's important to save for the future," said Beall. "We have been doing this for many years now and it's rewarding for us to help children, in a fun way, grow into financially responsible adults who know how to manage their own money."
Accounting for Kids® Day, presented each November by members of The Ohio Society of CPAs, teaches 10,000 Ohio elementary students how investing over the long-term can pay big dividends. For more information, visit the newsroom at www.ohioscpa.com.
