episode 122: plain, but effective: the businesses of east central ohio

Kyle Stemple | Plain Community | Ohio CPA Firm
Kyle Stemple, president of Rea’s East Central Ohio Region, joins Dave on this episode of unsuitable on Rea Radio to discuss how the many businesses in the Plain community operate and how they continue to be successful.

Ohio is home to two of the top four largest settlements of Plain communities, the Amish and Mennonite populations. There’s a sense of calm and peace in these rolling hills – and a work ethic and craftsmanship that’s second-to-none. Visitors from all over come to visit these communities every year in search of high-quality products, and make no mistake: these business owners know what they’re doing, they do it well, and in many cases, they’ve been honing their crafts for generations.

On this episode of unsuitable, we will be talking to Kyle Stemple, president of Rea’s East Central Ohio Region, to discuss how many businesses in the Plain community operate and the reasons they continue to be so successful. As a business owner, you always have two choices: you can do something yourself or hire someone else to do it. In today’s digital age, and with ample access to Google, we often think that we can figure everything out – but not everything you read on the internet is true, and trying to do everything yourself can result in being unfocused.

In the Plain communities, they aren’t distracted by the seduction of modern technology, and they have priorities in their businesses. They put a focus on work ethic and craftsmanship, and then hire the difference. This makes their businesses unique and efficient, and it’s a lesson every business owner can learn from.

If you run a business, create artisan goods, or just like to go shopping in East Central Ohio, you will be interested in these other topics discussed in this episode:

  • How the Plain community approaches education.
  • Why trusted advisors are highly valued by business owners in the Plain community.
  • How the traditions of the Plain community sets them up for success in business.
